PM launches 5G services, calls it ‘historic day’ for 21st

5G will be ubiquitous and will cover every aspect of our lives. So much so that we will wonder how we lived before the Internet. As far as mobile network operators are concerned, the first step is to introduce 5G into the market. The latest mobile operator, China Mobile, has introduced 5G services across its network. At the same time, China Mobile also announced that the first commercial 5G network was launched in China.

What are the advantages of 5G technology?

PM Launche 5G Service will be a key driver of economic development for India,” he said, calling it “an historic day” for India. It’s been quite a journey, says Modi, who has been PM for less than a year. “We have worked hard to get to this day,” he said. “In the next few months, we will be able to make an even bigger contribution to the development of our country.” He said the government is planning to launch another flagship project called ‘Digital India’. “It is very important for India to become a digital economy. We will be focusing on all-round growth,” he said. 5G service is expected to be commercially available in the United States within the next two years. While the U.S. is leading the charge in the technology, other countries such as Japan, Korea, China, and Hong Kong are also taking steps to adopt the new technology. Many industries will use 5G, such as transportation, agriculture, energy, healthcare, and more.

How does PM plans to launch its 5G network?

We will continue to work hard to build a smart and connected ecosystem, to further accelerate digital innovation in India,” Modi said during his speech. He added, “5G is the future.” The prime minister described it as “a historic day for the country”. The government has already started rolling out 5G networks in select cities in India, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. It is expected to launch nationwide by the end of the year. “India’s telecom industry has set a new record in the launch of the first ever commercial 5G service. This is the culmination of the years of hard work of the government and of the industry to build the infrastructure,” he said. “The future belongs to those who believe in the change that technology brings. We at the NITI Aayog congratulate all the stakeholders in the telecom sector and the nation for successfully launching the first ever 5G network. This is a historic day for India,” the prime minister tweeted.

How does 5G network help the customers?

5G offers a significant improvement in the speed of data transfers. It increases the number of devices that can connect to the Internet and the overall quality of the connection. These features are essential to the Internet of Things, which will increasingly use smart technologies and require a much greater capacity to exchange data with one another. For now, it is the network infrastructure that holds back the potential of IoT. “The 5G network will play an important role in providing broadband connectivity to users in the rural areas”. There will be increased connectivity and low latency, thus improving the user experience. Also, there is going to be a reduction in cost due to the increase in the efficiency of the communication. Also, there is going to be improvement in data speeds in 5G networks. A large percentage of smartphones are going to lose their access to 4G network when the 5G network is switched on. The reason behind the same is the lack of compatible devices. It is said that majority of the phones sold in 2019 will be using 4G network. With the introduction of the 5G network in 2020, the number of compatible devices are expected to decrease rapidly. A study conducted by IDC suggests that over 50% of all smartphones and mobile devices could be connected to a 5G network by 2022.
